The challenge

Overview.

Carrefour wanted to develop a functional app to cater to its customers and increase brand loyalty, so we set out on a journey to define the best field of action for them within the FoodTech sector.

Our starting point:
More than 70% of the population consider that having a healthy diet is part of their identity.
As a result of years of dishonest marketing, a lot of people do not trust food labels.
Food labels can be very confusing
Most people believe having a healthy diet is very expensive

People nowadays believe advertising is sugar-free

Our end goal:

Create a startup concept that solves a real issue, all while following a sustainable model, in an agile way that is aligned with the corporation.

Together with Carrefour, we embarked on a journey to develop an innovative, simple, original and entirely digital solution.

OUR process

Discovery, Insights and 3 Validation Loops.

Our own methodology, based on Lean Startup, Customer Development, Design Thinking and (most importantly) common sense, is adapted to every single project.

In this case, we carried out a Discovery and Insights process, as well as 3 different loops to test the concept in the market. With a user and market-validation-oriented approach, our loops are the most efficient way of validating multiple opportunities and hypotheses.

We implemented interviews, surveys, observation, safaris, empathy maps, and developed value proposition canvases and competitors matrix, among others, to obtain the level of detail we needed to pick a winning business concept.

In only 4 weeks, we were immersed in the sector. We identified the early adopters and main pains, gains, trends and competitors in order to build the right solution.

We evaluated our hypotheses and, then, created multiple FoodTech solution concepts. We then took those solutions to the streets and tested them out.

In one week, we prototyped a solution to help educate children. Healthy habits and nutrition conscientiousness were instilled in an audiovisual content-based game.

The result

A new venture in the FoodTech sector.

Pinya the app educates people on nutrition in a simple and original way. It includes a food encyclopedia, where users can access information and suggestions about nutritional value of food in a simple and original way.
The core of it all: Nutrition.

Its goal is helping people understand better what they are eating, so we created a food encyclopedia that includes easy-to-understand information and suggestions about the nutritional value of food.

UX/UI focus

One of our key insights was that it required a heavy investment in UX/UI, which is why we developed a full, detailed framework for its implementation.

The brand identity
The logo was designed keeping 3 essential elements in mind; a camera lens, which reflects food trends and influencer marketing on Instagram, a fruit icon, and the letter “y” representing millennials, our early adopters.

It took us only 3 months to develop the complete start-up concept.
